In fact it was the battle between an old-timer and a new wave player. Sam Farha, this old-style Vegas Shark was beaten by Chris Moneymaker, a man of no special celebrity. At the final table Chris had $6,600,000, Farha had - $1,800,000.
This game was really amazing. Chris’s hand is one of the worst in the list of WSOP winning hands:
 
5-4… Offsuit…But I think this is one of the WSOP features. I mean – when a man hopes to win and his hope is so desperate that he doesn’t fold trash… Farha’s hand was a shade better:
 
Farha raised to $100,000. Moneymaker called. The flop was:
  
It helped both Moneymaker and Farha… But now Chris had two pairs, while Farha – only one. The most interesting moment – Moneymaker checked-raised. Farha… well, he thought that a pair of jacks is enough to win and moved in… Moneymaker called. The last two cards didn’t help Farha but they made Moneymaker’s hand even better:
    
Moneymaker won the title and $2,500,000 in prize money.
